How To Prevent And Treat Heart Disease
Heart disease is a general term for a number of different diseases, all of which influence the heart in some way. Heart disease is in fact considered as being the leading reason of death nowadays in the United States. Heart disease indeed possesses serious threat to many people. Therefore, it is important to understand the methods to prevent and treat heart disease.
Prevention methods
There is reason to be hopeful because according to experts, heart disease prevention is promising. Even though some risk factors including sex, genetics, and age of a person are not within our control, one can still make an alteration in lifestyle and also change diet so that the odds of heart disease are significantly reduced.
There are also other methods by which heart disease prevention can be achieved. According to what the American Heart Association proposes, one must control obesity even in children and also make a determined attempt to take proper diet that contains enough nutrition. One of the better nutritional supplements you may want to try for heart disease prevention is mangosteen puree that is rich in antioxidants which aid in destroying free radicals that are the reason behind damage to cells and which in turn will result in heart disease.
Good heart disease prevention may also mean controlling the blood pressure and having LDL cholesterol at low levels. The best way to attain these goals is by making appropriate changes to diet and even by taking medications if so recommended by the doctor. Clearly, having low blood sugar levels will consider as heart disease prevention.
Another alternative is to exercise because it is a well known fact that regular exercise can reduce the risks of heart disease. Experts have a tendency to recommend as much exercise as humanly possible at least an hour per day. For many people, this seems like a never-ending task but the truth is this amount of exercise can be attained in ways other than going to the gym. Basically changing some habits, such as walking to work, can make people healthier. Walking is perhaps the easiest, cheapest, and healthiest type of exercise for most people and therefore should be taken advantage of.
The best heart disease prevention may not be a solitary course of action; rather, one may decide to have many strategies combined into one that will prove to be more effective. You can select approaches such as changes in diet, together with reducing excess weight and also maintaining blood sugar levels as well as taking nutritional supplements that are suggested by health experts.
Treatment options for heart disease
If you have heart disease then you will have to have some types of heart disease treatment in order to solve your problem. There are various heart disease treatment options that are available nowadays. The first treatment is of course prevention as explained previously.
However, if your heart disease is serious, than most probably you will also have to use more serious techniques of heart disease treatment. This includes medical treatment, which will usually be started straight away, even before an exact diagnosis of a heart problem is made.
This medical treatment may comprise of oxygen from a tube in the nose, oxygen through a face mask, nitroglycerin under the tongue, pain medicines, and aspirin. There are also clot dissolving medications which are often given, and the earlier these drugs are given, the higher the chances of opening the blocked artery and defending the cardiac muscle from further injury.
Cellular therapy, for example, is considered as being a potential treatment for heart disease. This is due to cellular products have been revealed to hold great potential for the treating of injured and diseased tissues in the body. They come from many sources, such as stem cells from bone marrow, peripheral blood, and myoblasts from skeletal muscle cells. The research so far has shown that this cellular therapy offers amazingly positive results, and so with additional research and more advancement, in the future this just may be known as the cure for heart disease.
Surgery can be executed on those who experience heart disease at any age although other methods are preferable. Surgery is necessary for those who do not react to their medications or whose condition worsens radically. In some situations, surgery is the only method to amend the problem and give the patient a probability of good health. In uncommon cases, repeat surgery is needed afterward to rid the body of excess fluids that have developed in the chest.
Heart surgery can be wearing and the healing period can be slow so it is no surprise to find out that a huge number of people who suffer from heart disease which needs surgery are interested in less invasive surgery. Less invasive surgery for heart disease can involve smaller incisions, less pain, and a much faster healing period. Not only does this type of surgery involve shorter hospital stays, it can also reduce the risks of complications to the patient during and after the operation.
There are many resources that are available if you want more information on the treatment of heart disease. The most significant thing of all is to keep a healthy lifestyle, a healthy and nutritious diet, and plenty of exercise. By keeping a healthy lifestyle you will not only be guarding yourself against heart disease but as well against all illnesses and health conditions in general.
Doctor’s Oath
The Doctor’s oath is one that is tied to practicing medicine ethically. The doctor’s oath may be called the Hippocratic oath. Hippocrates is considered the father of western medicine. There is some ambiguity to the actual thoughts of Hippocrates because most of his teachings are from the Hippocratic corpus. The corpus is a collection of approximately seventy early Greek medical works (textbooks, lectures, essays, research and notes). The works are from various authors and contain varied content. It has been said that it is not likely that all of the works are from Hippocrates himself (based on subject and writing style).
The doctors oath itself is one of the works of the corpus. The oath addresses doctor philosophy (doctor principles) as well as practical issues and is one of the most well known of Greek medical text. Over time, the oath has been re-written to meet the needs of different cultures. Therefore, the doctors oath is one that is varied in content depending on where one may hear it. It’s no surprise that the oath is varied in content based on the need. The classic English translation of the oath starts as follows:
“I swear by Apollo the physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witness, that I will fulfill according to my ability and judgment this oath and this covenant”. How practical is that? Though the modern version reads much more clearly it has been said (though not verified) that some medical schools don’t even require the oath.
The doctors oath is much like other oaths taken by professionals. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to uphold the overall theme of the oath. One would hope that a doctor would be ethical without the oath. The oath is merely “right of passage” if you will. Doctors are indeed individual and simply because they have taken an oath, it does not mean that the doctor is always ethical. There are many incidents that we can point to such as Dr Jack Kevorkian. Dr Kevorkian is most known for assisting over 100 individuals to commit physician-assisted suicide. Dr Kevorkian was a champion for Dr. assisted suicide.
Though Dr Kevorkian is not alone in some of his principles and theories, his actions earned him 8 years jail time for second-degree murder. When speaking of the doctors oath and those who do not uphold it, this is an obvious extreme. However, it must be noted that with any extreme, there are many hues between. In other words there are those who uphold the doctors oath to the utmost and stay well within the “medical box”. Then there are those who stick their toes outside of the box. Then those like Dr Jack who trampolines out of the box and is not even in the same hemisphere as most. Again, Kevorkian had followers who believed in him. However, the masses would agree that his methodology does not/did not uphold the doctors oath.
In closing, we know that people are people. Whether taking an oath for presidency and receiving “presidential favors” under a white house desk or taking an Hippocratic oath and assisting many to commit suicide, it still comes down to people. Real people make real decisions and an oath does not necessarily change the person or make him better. Do your due diligence when choosing your doctors. Don’t rely on an oath.
Benefits of Local Doctors
The Local Doctors community performs many useful services for people in all walks of life in all parts of the world. Everybody needs medical advice from the point that they are conceived in their mother’s womb to the final moment when they die. Having a good trusted family doctor is essential today for almost anybody who seeks to stay in good health. Not every ailment is serious, but it is important to get every odd symptom checked lest it point to something serious. Then, of course, there are regular health checkups that local doctors provide, including checking blood, stool, and other vital statistics of the body to ensure that it is in good health. It is also important for every educated individual to find time to identify and diagnose their family illnesses and other common diseases, such as cough and cold. Mothers and other caregivers should know basic first aid and essentials of bringing up small children.
On a different note, it is extremely important for everybody to consider health insurance as they approach middle age. Even routine medical treatments, such as tooth cleaning, performed by local doctors can be expensive. In the unfortunate case that a person suffers more intense injuries or is diagnosed with a disease, such as cancer, the bills can drive a regular salaried person bankrupt. There are several health insurance providers that offer cover to various age groups. As a thumb rule, the yearly payments are cheaper while you are still younger (read healthier). Once you have been diagnosed with some disease, any cover that you seek will be very expensive, as even the insurance providers are ultimately also trying to run a profitable business.
With advancement in medical science, local doctors are performing complicated operations, such as plastic surgery. An increasing number of people are conscious about the way they look, which has resulted in the high demand for nutritionists, dieticians, and trainers. While some people have genuine defects, such as a cleft lip or a joint septum, that they need to correct, many others just want to be like their favorite celebrity. Then there are procedures, such as Botox, lip fills, liposuction, breast augmentation, hair transplant, which have become quite common.
These days, local doctors are often maligned for the lack of sympathy or high fees. They have been often accused of negligence, especially when any procedure does not go as well as expected by the patient. While it is important to get the necessary information to ensure that no one was at fault, it is equally important to remember that medical science is far from being accurate. Treatments are being challenged every day as new alternative forms of medicine are being discovered. There is again the difference of hand precision in surgical procedures. No two professionals are alike, yet neither may be wrong. It is extremely important to take into account the total experience, skill area of your own comfort with the medical practitioner before you entrust yourself to them. Afterward, it is best to repose your faith in him or her, rather than leaving any room for blaming anybody.
